As we wait a little longer now Standing here a little stronger now I can feel all the changes Waking up another season now I felt the love of a listener She came to me when I needed her We walk hand in hand through the valley of worry And climb the mountain to see the sun And climb the mountain to see
2.
Will I wake up - is this a dream? Thought I saw you the other day Did we walk together last night? Wear my armor a little tight these days These days I’m holding on, holding on I try to let it go, to let it go, go Won’t let you go Staying inside, I’m hiding out Just right now, can’t take a crowd All the animals are leaving Silence, silence I’m sitting in
3.
Night people living by bright lights Staying out too late to see the sun Looking for a memory to forget Darkness is an old and fickle friend Colors seem to fade Grey, grey blue The trees are only barren So they can make room The new is coming Hiding underground Come, come out The seed is in your hand Waiting to sprout The rains are coming
4.
Sitting on the porch, eating mangoes I haven’t slept for days It’s no little thing - starting over It’s gonna be okay - is it okay? So many walls are in my way I just made a list - it’s way too long I’m feeling overwhelmed! I’ll just take a break, Go outside and plant it on in the ground Into the ground I hope it grows into something I could wait a lifetime To do the thing, to make moves and see Why am I stuck in slow motion? A play-by-play of all the ways I screwed up How do people make “wise decisions?” I haven’t slept for days Dreaming all my dreams Call it “vision” Call it a holiday Whatever you say I hope I can get a move on I could wait a lifetime To do the thing - make moves and see what happens Why am I stuck in the middle Of my own mind? Gonna take my time and go nowhere
5.
Fire (Summer) The sun shines warm on my skin I fly over fields and mountains I feel, I feel, I feel so much at once My heart is racing like a bird’s The tall grasses sway by the sea I close my eyes and see the heat I feel, I feel, I feel I might explode From all the beauty I can’t begin to hold My heart is fluttering like a bird’s Earth (Transition) As we wait a little longer now Standing here a little stronger now I can feel all the changes Waking up another season now

about

In the system of Chinese Medicine, the year is divided into five seasons, five transformations, or five phases - as I call them here. In Chinese they are called the wǔxíng 五行. Each phase is associated with physical and emotional attributes, movements of the cycle of life and death, even changes within a single day. The Wood phase equates to birth, sunrise, and new beginnings, while the Water phase equates to death, hibernation, and preparing for the new that is to come in the next cycle.

In these songs (which are really one song divided into five parts), I attempted to convey the emotional quality of each season, while keeping in mind the changes in nature itself. This interpretation was based on my experience and observation of one year of my life. So it's personal, but also (hopefully) somewhat universal.

If any nerds out there want to go deeper with me about this, feel free to reach out. I love and welcome it!
